Itagaki Taisuke contributed to the overthrowing of feudalism and restoring administrative power to the throne. He and Saigo worked together to overthrow the Shoguns for the Meiji Restoration. He resigned his position as a Councilor of State to show his strong opposition towards the government's reforms and policies, such as refraining from invading Korea. However he continued to influence others through establishing a school in his native province.
